Identity Project - Boaçu Slum Complex
The Identity Project consists of field research work developed by researcher Norma Miranda, who chose the Boaçú community, located in the city of São Gonçalo, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, as the study environment. The choice, made in April 2024, took into account the historical importance of this community within the municipality in question. The land of Vinícius Júnior (Soccer Player) has countless valuable seeds and this entry seeks to reveal some of them.
The project was possible to be articulated based on the important collaboration of a resident who is a product of the community: Luiz Alberto da Silva, better known as DJ Caniball.
Authorship: DJ Caniball and Norma Miranda.
Objectives and methodology[editar | editar código-fonte]
This project is being developed through interviews with local residents, who are helping to shed light on issues that are important to them and that are felt in their daily lives. The aim is to share some of the topics that were discussed in the conversation, including: culture, sports, religion, neglect by the government, etc. Despite the problems, the residents are making an effort to reduce these impacts through collective actions that aim to improve their lives. Through collective work, the interviewees intend to share their memories, rich in solidarity and woven in a serious way into the world in which they live.
The relationship that I establish with the countryside is first and foremost linked to the city of São Gonçalo, where I was born and raised. More than that, it is the place where I witnessed and continue to witness the social and political transformations of the largest electoral college in the state of Rio de Janeiro after the capital and the third largest electoral city in the country, according to a source from the TSE[1].
My education as a citizen is limited to the Boa Vista neighborhood, neighboring the Boaçu community, which is gaining visibility on the Wikifavelas platform. As an academic, my education came from the Fluminense Federal University, located in the neighboring city of Niterói. Although São Gonçalo has all this dimension, its entry-level public higher education institution is UERJ. CEDERJ and IFRJ are promoting blended learning.
Reflecting on the inclusion and visibility of this unique territory, in political, social and economic terms, was what motivated the research that is currently underway.
