The paper proposes to revisit the notions of “life under siege” and “[[Sociabilidade violenta: por uma interpretação da criminalidade contemporânea no Brasil urbano (artigo)|violent sociability]]” based on ethnographic research conducted in the last decade. The article analyzes the transformations that the inauguration of [[UPP – a redução da favela a três letras|Pacification Police Unit]] Program generated in the daily life of [[Lista de Favelas do Rio de Janeiro|Rio’s favelas]] and in the so-called “world of crime”.
