The article analyses how rumors that have circulated around the favelas Santa Marta and Cidade de Deus can help to understand transformations of public concerns and issues that have affected the routines of “pacified” favela residents over the last five years. The first Pacification Police Units of Rio de Janeiro were established in these two favelas.
